Skillet Spaghetti Pie

Unconventional yet incredibly delicious, for a fun twist on spaghetti, try our Skillet Spaghetti Pie!

Leftover spaghetti noodles will help make this skillet spaghetti pie recipe come together really quickly (I mean, if you need an excuse to simply cook the entire package of pasta, here it is!) Most of the time, we add a can of lentils for additional protein.

Skillet Spaghetti Pie

Can be prepped over a campfire by hungry cowboys!

Ingredients
  

  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 onion chopped
  • 1 green pepper chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic finely chopped
  • 1 tsp oregano
  • 1/2 tsp basil
  • 1/2 tsp thyme
  • 1 pinch red pepper flakes
  • salt & pepper
  • 1 19 oz can tomato sauce
  • 1/2 cup nutritional yeast
  • 3 tbsp balsamic vinegar
  • 1-2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 dash liquid smoke
  • 1 454 gram box spaghetti
  • 1/2 cup panko bread crumbs
  • 1/4 cup cornmeal

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 450 
  • Cook spaghetti according to package instructions. 
    Drain spaghetti once cooked. 
  • Heat olive oil in cast iron pan over medium  heat. Sauté onion and green pepper for 5-7 minutes. To vegetables, add garlic spices, and salt and pepper to taste and sauté for 30 seconds. Add tomato sauce stirring to combine. Add nutritional yeast, sugar, balsamic vinegar, and liquid smoke. 
  • Combine sauce and spaghetti and add bread crumbs and half of cornmeal. Spread mixture evenly in cast iron pain pressing it down firmly. Sprinkle remaining cornmeal over spaghetti. Bake for 30-35 minutes until top begins to just slightly brown.
